![]() ![]() Then I used the 1/8" shank bit in the Dremel w/Router Base to rout out the bass to accommodate the pickup, and it came out absolutely perfect.Īnyway, just wanted to share, as I've been using these bits a lot in the past couple months (have owned them much longer), and have been absolutely thrilled with them. Double-checked by re-cutting another template using the freehanded one, and it fit perfect. I used the 1/4" bit in the router table to freehand cut a template for a 5-string bass Nordstrand pickup. These bits can not only get a crazy degree of accuracy, but if you use them (carefully) to freehand templates, it's a guarantee that they'll be able to trace the template perfectly afterwards. I've also run into the issue of hand-shaping templates, only to find that my guide bearing bits were not fine enough to trace the curves I'd done by hand. Great for template cutting, but also great for freehanding. And anyone that's ever had a template slip while routing knows what an absolute nightmare that can become.Īlso, I use the 1/4" bit in the router table all the time, just about every time I rout anything for a guitar or bass on the router table. The Colt is simply much heavier, and I think it's easier to be heavy-handed when pressing the bit up against a routing template as compared to using the Precision Router Base. The Dremel is much lighter, and maybe I'm just imagining it, but I swear that double-stick taped templates on the surface of the guitar are less prone to slipping while using the Dremel in the router base vs. HSS Router Carbide Engraving Bits and Router Bit Set 1/8' (3.2mm) Shank HSS Rotary Router Bits Tool for DIY Woodworking Edge Grooving Wood Deburring Engraving and Milling,20 Pcs. This item: Milescraft 2216 1/2-Inch Bearing Guided Straight Router Bit for Mortising. The Colt router works just fine, but personally, I've found it much less nerve-wracking doing repair/custom work using the Precision Router base and these tiny bits. To date, I've done all sorts of jobs with these. And, naturally, right into the Stewmac Precision Router base. Not only do they have 1/4" and 3/16" guide bearing bits with a 1/4" shank for mounting in a router table, but 1/8" shank (!) bits that fit into a Dremel. Ideal when using the tool with the Dremel Router Table 231 or the Dremel Plunge Router Base 335. I've been using these things from Amana Tool for months now, and they have all sorts of applications. ![]()
